AP Design System Study

A good friend and SWE asked me to redesign his personal website to better reflect his technical skillset and move beyond its previous simplicity. I used the project to explore modern design systems, accessibility, and intentional interactions, while developing a more expressive visual language through creative interactive pages & UI elements. I took it as an opportunity to push my own visual practice, researching my questions all while exploring how design and development can work together throughout the process. Site is fully designed and currently in integration.

For the redesign, I developed a UX/UI framework by studying three websites across the design–engineering spectrum, comparing their grids, spacing, margins, gutters, and directional flow. These studies informed the portfolio’s responsive grid and spacing system, creating clearer hierarchy and navigation while balancing the flexibility of a portfolio with the structure of a developer-focused site.
I translated this framework into concrete system deliverables: responsive layouts, margin rules, light/dark mode and neutral color ramps for accessibility, typography hierarchy, and reusable UI components. Buttons, links, navigation, and project cards were defined with consistent interaction states and mapped to the underlying tokens, with external contrast plug-ina guiding accessibility. This shifted my process from designing individual pages toward building a scalable system that could be consistently implemented and extended.
